It's kind of the same reason why people call others "nerds", "preps", "jocks", or any other label--because people have a hard time understanding those like the men in My Chemical Romance, and, to make it so that they're more one-dimensional, they slap a label on them.
And hey, some people accept this social marking, and that's fine...I'm not going to criticize anyone's form of living, so long as they don't hurt their selves or others (no, not all emos are suicidal). But it makes me happy to see people (especially those that I admire and respect) reject these sorts of words and insist on being their selves. -

People think My chemical romance is emo because of the evil rumors that have been spread by haters and have been believed by people as the truth even though it is the farthest thing from it. My chemical romance has always been and always will be anti-violence and anti-suicide. The guys have said numerous times that they are not emo or goth because they don't look like them, dress like them, or sound like them and I dont think we should keep believing in lies that come from people that dont even like the band so if MCR says they're not emo or goth, they're not. -

And.
Because people can't seem to look deeper into them any farther than their appearance.
People say they are emo because they're too lazy to look into their message and to understand their metaphorical lyrics striving for hope and fighting against self-harm and suicide. -

I don't really have an answer but I think it's cause they entered the punk scene with Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Just cause their songs have explicit lyrics, people automatically think that My Chem is emo. It's stupid. They aren't at all. -

I don't know about the second part but I think it's because they wear black and because they wear black eyeliner so you can see it and yeah . I don't know :\ Either way they're great :D -

emo isn't always meant as a bad thing. some people areproud to be emo and even if mcr are labeled emo it doesn't mean their music is any diferent.
it just so hapens that mcr kindda became the synonim for emo band but hey that gives them recognition so it's really worked for them. fob are labeled emo too, and they sound and look less "emo" than mcr.
besides mcr rule emo or not! -

Because stupid labels! I mean just because they liked to dress a certain way it doesnt mean their fucking emo! I mean really, if you know the band you know they arent, listen to the speaches, and watch the teenagers music video, i mean, come on... get real!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
