Answered It's gender bias; some hate smart, powerful women.

I wish you had given a none of the above and/or undecided possibility, because I really don't think any of these are completely accurate. Since there's a lot of mysogeny in the United States, I picked that one, and I do think it's part of why lots of people can't stand her.

However, I would have liked an option that said "What loathing are you talking about?", because I'm not sure that Hillary loathing is nearly as extensive as is Obama loathing. A lot of people don't quite trust her, worry about how moderate she is, worry that she might just sell out to the money people. That's not loathing though.

Were she to be the Democratic candidate, I would certainly vote for her, but I wouldn't be thrilled about it.

Answered It's sad, unjustified 'group-think'; radio host push the idea.

The uncritical, mid-brain, visceral hatred that is expressed by a surprising number of people is clearly the result of deliberate manipulation of the unsophisticated by the devious.

It is very sad. Hillary, though imperfect, (aren't we all) is well-intentioned and works hard.

Hilary was part of the leadership of the DLC, that tried (and succeeded) to co-opt Democratic Party policies to lure Republicans into supporting Republicrat candidates (candidates who were nominally Democrats, but voted with the Republicans more often than not). The DLC, as much as anyone, is responsible for the deregulation that has led to the current economic mess, as well as the mess we're in with the Iraq war.

Once she was a presidential candidate, Hilary's rhetoric shifted sharply to the left. All of a sudden, she was a tried and true Democrat who was violatently opposed to the Republican policies she had recently tried to shove under the Democratics Party tent. It's that kind of hypocrisy (and Barak, while not as bad, is guilty of it too) that causes my distrust and dislike of her. We absolutely do not need another four or eight years of DLC-sponsored "Clintonism".

Well, I think the country as a whole was seduced by the free market ideology. The introduction of computer technology and the fall of the Iron Curtain made us think we could do no wrong - we took credit we didn't deserve, and were unrealistically optimistic about the immediate future. We have some huge challenges, but we could still have a bright future. But it won't be because a few geniuses, properly rewarded by a "free" market create wealth. The synergy of many minds working together created the internet, the geniuses who "created" wealth undermined the economy and the ecology, and we have a lot of mopping up to do. It is very hard in the midst of a maelstorm to see which way the wind is blowing...

Answered I don't understand it; but I agree.

I would support Hillary the same as I now support Barack. However, now that Barack is the Democratic presidential nominee, it is important to keep Democratic Senators in the Senate! (I would have chosen GEN Wes Clark for VP for that reason).

I still don't understand this either. I've heard various theories, but no consensus, and none of it really makes good sense to me. My sentiments are pretty close to crsone's.

The Lasting Results of the whole Arkansas Project created and funded by Right wing enemies of Bill and Hillary Clinton!
The money made by slandering the Clintons was and still is monumental
And gave us the likes of Rush, Coulter, Goldberg, Olson, Malkin,Hannity and their ilk.... who have made their careers on attacking the Clintonsl (and FOX)
Most people believe the 10 second sound bite that passes for news these days!

Seems that the "loathing" comes more from the conservative leaders and followers who resented everything about the Clintons. She sure had a shining admirable moment in the limelight with her convention speech supporting Obama. Good for her!

I think there areperfectly good reasons for mistrusting Hillary because of her voting record. While I could never support her wholly, to hate her is excessive.

It's the first two, gender and media looking for ratings. She scares the daylights out of sexist males. We still have a lot of women who ask their husbands what to do or think. I think the primaries were a good measure of gender bias vs. racism. Both remain very strong. Look at Congress and the White House, mostly rich white guys. They should have about 20% poor and homeless people and 2% millionaires.

Her win-at-all-costs attitude turned me off a long time ago. If you can't win the nomination on your own merits and have to sling mud to distract the electorate, you don't deserve to be the nominee.

Answered It's justified by her actions, like...

president of College Republicans, campaigning for Goldwater, support for NAFTA then lying about it, authorization of Iraq War, Board of Directors for Walmart, support for Iraq War, support for Legislation Banning Flag Desecration, pandering to uneducated rednecks, lies, campaigning for Joe Liebermann, threatening the Iranian people with nuclear annihilation, hiring corporate lobbyists as campaign strategists who are on the payroll of 3rd world dictatorships, destroying the Democratic Party, campaigning for John McCain, lying about moveon.org, dismissing Democratic activists, pandering to AIPAC, lying about Bosnia, holding fundraisers with Rupert Murdoch, endorsed by Richard Mellon Scaife, etc., etc. etc.

Is this the best the Democratic Party can come up with???? NO!!!

  • raves     [-] by mykeesgram
What did she say about moveon.org, and how did she support McCain?
  • raves     [-] by Warren
That's ancient history now. Hillary is not the Democratic candidate. I'd rather focus on getting Obama elected and defeating John McCain.

I've never understood the loathing for the Clintons - it's not just Hillary; the conservatives were gunning for Bill Clinton before he took office. But I've noticed that some people are like lightening rods - they draw the storm out of the sky.

I don't imagine the Clintons are any worse than most politicians and are probably considerably better. The loathing and the conspiracy theories that swirl around them will remain a mystery to me.

Like not wanting to get out as soon as possible from Iraq. Like not wanting to change the status quo. Like selling out to the corperate money. Like repeating health care, health care all the time, like nothing else was wrong in the country, the war and all over the planet. Like always bringing up " I AM WOMEN " instead of issues, issues and more issues.

I think the loathing of Senator Obama is growing faster. He scares me and I am one of those who will change to a Republican voter if he wins. So no I don't understand it I am just disgusted with the whole democratic party and he idiot who leads it right now.

What do you and McCain agree on?
I have been asking this question all do to the Hillary supporters and still haven't gotten an answer yet!
How can you possibly agree with a democrat and a republican at the same time?
  • raves +2 -1 [-] by crsone
It's an excellent question. I would pair with it another one, though -- something to the effect of needing an example of why they would rather have a conservative Republican than a liberal Democratic -- what specific thing is it about Obama you find so impossible
  • raves +2   [-] by mentonemommy~FVMA~PAFMA
    Very good, indeed, crsone!
I just cannot fathom why anyone who likes Hillary would at the same time say they will vote for McCain! It just doesn't make any sense.
  • raves +2   [-] by crsone
    No it doesn't.
  • raves +2   [-] by Ali
I think that for some it must be an emotional response. I'm not implying that of anyone in particular, so I hope none of my Hillary supporting friends will take offense, but a few people are so devoted to Hillary that the candidate who displaces her must necessarily be seen as unworthy, impossible or even as the enemy.

And from that point, any mis-step, wrong word, chance association or his preacher's words are fair game for magnification.
  • raves +2   [-] by crsone
You're probably right about that, Ali.
  • raves +1   [-] by Ali
Good question. I, too, have been asking that.

Have you gotten any responses? I haven't! I think we are calling their bluff and they don't know what to say!
  • raves +1   [-] by Ali
Mostly the answers are about distrust of Obama because of his: preacher; wife's statements; perceived lack of patriotism (the faux non-salute of the flag; the lack of a flag pin); relatives in Kenya (and their bloodthirsty nature - something about killing, anyway); pro-African sentiments if/when in high office; and his lack of experience.

Superior experience and proven patriotism are the only two qualifications I recall vis a vis McCain. One person did tout his environmental stance (the bill he and Lieberman unsuccessfully sponsored. But it was very weak and I see no other evidence that he has interest in addressing global climate change).
