Hard choice between the sex pistols and the ramones.. so personal preference has to go with sex pistols.. As for the other two...Im sorry, but there are so many better choices.. (dont get me wrong I love NOFX) but seriously... what about The Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, The Misfits, GG Allin, The Replacements....

I'm going to say The Ramones, but there was a difference between East Coast Punk and West Coast Punk and British Punk. The Ramones were extremely influential on the East Coast but so were other bands that were around back in the day. There were German bands too that were kick ass.

I'm looking up to the right and seeing a poll "Is Green Day Punk?" well, I dunno. Back then, I guess maybe they would have been. But punk as it was back when punk was punk doesn't exist anymore except in the memories of people who were there. It really didn't last all that long in scheme of things, but had a everlasting effect.

This is a mere matter of logical reasoning. The Ramones toured England and turned on the English to punk stylings. This influenced the Pistols, the Clash, etcetera. Green Day in turn obviously took their initial cues from the Pistols and the Clash. Anyone who Green Day influenced has sucked, and they themselves are merely pedestrian.

It was either them or the Sex Pistols.
I'd probably say The Ramones since their style can be heard a little more in other Punk bands.
