Nope, just what they say. If they happen to have one of the stereotypical 'dumb' accents and they are dumb well that was just a coincidence.

I am not saying that accents are indicative of intelligence, merely that some accents are associated with certain levels of intelligence...

    But, excellent question!

There are some accents, I like better than others, and some that sound better (in my ear!) on women and not men-and visa versa...but, I listen to what they say, not how they sound when saying it!

I like interacting with people who've got an accent from nowhere near we happen to be at the time. It assures me that they've at least experienced more of the world than their own backyards. This breeds at least a little culture and wisdom.

But, of course, some of them can still be complete idiots.

Hello everyone! New here, Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in. I was raised in Southern AZ, so I tend to have a Spanish accent. Although I find that I tend to pick up the accent of whoever I am speaking with. I don't think it is indicative of ones intelligence, merely a by-product of your environment.
    Would you guys/gals agree?

No, I do listen very closely because I am worried I will misunderstand what they are saying.

at first. there are certain accents that i hear and i make assumptions but i am old enough to know better. i have heard some highly intelligent conversations and presentations from people whose second language is English. I have heard awful presentations from 'native' speakers of English.

I'm going to have to be the lone wolf on this... I think subconsciously we do just a little bit, because we associate communication ability with intelligence often times. When people don't speak clearly (In our perception) I think we tend to secretly doubt them a little...

Oddly though, I alter my Texas accent at work so I don't sound like a total hick while I'm explaining technical matters to Phd's and Engineers. I don't care about their accent though..
