You don't have to see something transform to witness evolution.

Thanks for the link. But until I literally see a species turn into another species (like the dinosaurs supposedly turned into birds, or fish turned into lizards, or whatever the story is, I'm not sure?), I won't believe it. And it doesn't affect me in any way whatsoever, I'm not a scientist, I don't enact public policy, I'm just a regular joe who's already passed all her science courses and can go on her merry way. :)
Uprave for you! -
But you can't ever see those things happen because they're so slow...I'm sure that if you were ever to become an archaeologist than you'd see plenty of fossil evidence supporting it...
please, just do a bit more research. Actually read Origin of the Species. I'm not saying the word of Darwin is law, but just to clear up the rumors and get from the book what you will, you know? -
I read "Origin of the Species" for one of my intellectual history courses in college. Good read.
I guess what I'm saying is the issue doesn't impact my life like others do. I believe what I believe because of my faith. If I'm wrong, and Genesis is wrong, I have no reason to believe the rest of the Bible (because if the very beginning of a book is wrong, what good is the rest?). And if the Bible's wrong, well, I die, and that's it, game over. But if the Bible's right, my faith has been for good, and I rest in Heaven.
Worst thing that happens to me by not believing in evolution is that some people call me an idiot, and I can live with that. People are entitled to their opinions of me! :) -
as is atomic theory-but I'm more inclined to believe a theory that explains every detail when tested. A theory simply is a well supported hypothesis. And evolutionary theory while it explains changes within species, cannot produce a positive link btween species such as man and apes. The 'missing' link is missing because it doesnt exist. If man evolved from apes then by definition apes should no longer exist. Evolution also cannot explain the origin of life, or in my opinion how the complexity of a cell evolved randomly. Cells have now been found to have over 100,000 components that all function in perfect harmony, could that happen by evolution? I dont think so

The theory of gravity is more complex than "things fall down". It states that any two objects share an attractive gravitational force proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of their distance. Have you observed first hand gravitational force between two everyday objects laying on a table? Gravitational force is too small to observe between most objects in everyday life, with the exception of the Earth.

Answered I believe in evolution but I still believe in God.
All you have to do is study African History and it breaks it down completely for you. Also I go off of facts, humans were not the first beings on this earth, also study the Lucy story it's quite interesting and it will really make you think. But My Father God will always be first and who I praise to. -
Answered Yes I belive in Evolution 100% regardless of what the bible says.
I don't believe in any of the myriad creation myths from any of the man made (which is all of them) religions. But ther are a few that are way more entertaining and fun that the judeo/christian/islamic 3 "O" god myth. -
Concerned...I hope you understand religion better than you understand science. Evolution doesn't teach that humans evolved from apes/monkeys. Let me help you. If humans evolved from monkeys there wouldn't be monkeys. It is believed that since humans, apes and monkeys are primates they share a common ancestor just as it's believed that bears and raccoons have a common ancestor.
-
HeadHunter...You're correct in that the split between the common ancestors of the Old world monkeys and the apes happened in the earliest Miocene, at least 20 million years ago. DNA show that human's closest living relatives are the ape species of Africa, and most studies by geneticists show that chimpanzees and humans are more closely related to each other than either is to gorillas. Humans and chimpanzees are both the descendants of a common ancestor that was distinct from other African apes. This common ancestor is thought to have existed in the Pliocene between 5 and 8 million years ago. Just because there was such a great span of time between a common ancestor doesn't mean it doesn't/didn't have an influence on human evolution.
-
ahh now you are playing with the early late divergence theories. Also the most recent studies show it is the Bonobos or Pygmy Chimps that are the cloest related between us and all the great apes. PLus I never thought that time had that great a inpact on human evolution after all they have identified at least 10 direct so called missing links or evolutionary stages

But there is nothing inconsistent with believing in both evolution and God. It is only a problem among fundamentalists who insist on a literal interpretation of the 7 days of creation described in Genesis. -

I accept the theory of evolution as a scientific explanation of how things developed. My faith in God does not depend on the earth being a certain age, or that the "6 days" in Genesis are 24 hour days as we know them today, or that all creation sprang into being in its present form.On a side note, Genesis actually offers two slightly differing creation stories in Chapters 1 & 2. Only one of those stories involves 6 days, and the order of creation is different in the two stories. It takes some interpretation and reconciliation to present both stories as literally true.
