If at any time in your life you've had food in your hand near a swimming pool, you've heard this myth. You cannot swim until you've waited at least 30 minutes.
For some families, the more harsh "hour" rule was used. If you broke the rule, the implication was that you would get cramps, be unable to swim, drown, and die. This rule seemed to apply even if you stayed on the shallow end. According to this statistic, unlike air, water-to-skin contact has magical properties that cause the food in your belly to explode unless it is past a certain point in your digestive track. What do you think SodaHeads?

Answered It depends if you ate too much.
I don't think you are suppose to do any exercise right after eating because you will get stomach cramps. But from my own experience I use to eat a light breakfast and then go into the pool and whirlpool at my health club every morning and never had any problems. -
Answered No. Straight bulls*** myth because you are not a Gremlin.
Just don't eat an entire Thanksgiving dinner and attempt to win an olympic race.
It's the same with any other sport. You're not supposed to eat too close to exercising because you'll cramp up. It used to happen to me when I played basketball when I was a kid, and then my coach told me not to eat right before I played.
Now that I think about it, it's all just common sense. -

You may not want to go into a rigorous cycle of excersize, because most of your circulation is concentrating on digestion, and too much excersize could cause a stitch. But, if you're going back in just to wade around in the backyard pool, you're fine. -

No, but it is not that simple. If you where to have a big meal. The blood rushes to the stomach to digest it. The lack of blood in the muscles would cause the cramp. While unlikely it has it's base in fact. More likely you would regurgitate and make a mess in the pool. Not to say be the butt of many jokes. so play it safe.

It's actually because that's the maximum amount of time it takes food to begin to break down and start forming gases. So if you go under, people can find you by looking for the fart bubbles.
