Why must the non-religious refer to themselves as intellectually superior to us and be so insulting on these polls?

They accuse us of worshiping and imaginary being. They insult and name call. WTF is their problem?

Actually, I'm a non believer, and have basically been called a dumb ass time and time again by believers.
I say to each his own. If you believe in god, that's great, if you don't that's great, too.

In order to answer any other way, I would have to agree with your statement that we all feel we are superior and I don't feel that way.

I'm a non-believer and for the most part try to respect everyone's beliefs, but if attacked I will attack back. I don't understand why people can't just get along man. Close the mouths, stop the angry typing, sit back, and shake hands. Life is good, no matter what you believe

I'm a non-believer. But I have never insulted anyone about their religious beliefs. Believing in God/Gods/Higher power/whatever does not make you any less intelligent or more intelligent than someone else.
I've seen both non-believers, and believers insult each other. Both are guilty of starting arguments/insulting. But then I've also met some very nice non-believers and believers on here =)

People need to learn that it IS possible to disagree with someones beliefs, while still respecting them.

its most likely in self defence from the hatred and threats thrown at them from the hard-line, bible thumping christian extremists. Normal Christians and catholics do not do this, they follow the teachings of Jesus Christ who was a peaceful man.

They just have a strong faith in wat they believe. The only thing they don't think about is that they are nobody 2b judging anyone. We are human, that makes us not perfect. We are all hypocrits if u really think about it.

I don't even have to think about it at all. It's easy to see, even when I look into the mirror.

they don't understand what it is like to have God in their life. I have been a christian since I was 14yrs old. God has blessed me in every way. I think that everyone believes in God but not everyone chooses to follow Him. Sometimes people who claim to be christians don't act maybe the way they should and that makes the rest of us look bad,we all have sin in our life and we need to ask God to forgive us. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."(Romans 3:23) "For the wages of sin is death."(Romans 6:23 But God commendeth His love toward us,that while we were yet sinners,Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8) "That if thou confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." (Romans 10:9) "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)

I agree with u. Many ppl claim 2b Christian, Catholic, Muslim or watever. Anybody can say they're 1 thing, but its another thing 2 actually follow wat the bible says and 2 apply that 2 our lives.
  • raves     [-] by R W
That's not true. I am very well versed in your religion. I didn't even make the choice to stop believing. I just studied enough that it stopped making sense. I don't think I'm smarter than Christians. I just know their Bible better than most of them do.

They like to see us get mad and spout off. Then they turn it around on you so it makes you look bad. Thats one thing I refuse to argue with someone. Just gives them ammo.

Gee, this isnt a loaded question is it. Who has "refered to themselves as intellectually superior"?

Last time I checked, "believers" are rude as well. :)
  • raves     [-] by Jerry
There are those in this very poll refering to themselves as such. Look around the polls on religion and the "Do you believe in God ?" polls. Ya can't miss it.
  • raves +2   [-] by altrene
Well I guess I just ignore it because I don't feel better than anyone just because I do not believe in God. But, thats just me

It's the simple concept that everyone thinks they're right and everyone else is stupid for believing the way they do.
People have different beliefs and we just have to learn to deal with it.
Now, if I'm a fourteen year old and I've already figured this out, imagine how sad it would look for an adult to have it stuck in their mind that they're always right...
Although I do know some people like that... -.-
  • raves +2 -1 [-] by Robynita [Kaulitz]
I know way too many people like that actually. I'm a non-believer but I don't shove it down people's throats (unless of course they try to force feed me their faith, then it's only fair to retaliate). There's a woman that I work with who nearly went insane when she asked me to go with her to church and I (politely) declined. Of course she had to press the issue even further, couldn't just leave it at that. I wasn't going to tell her that I don't believe in God but she basically forced it out of me and now she's always on me telling me that I need to read the Bible and start believing or else I'm damned to a life in hell...

I feel that I should apologise for non-believers like myself. I've been called stupid by theists because I'm an atheist. I would never think of myself as superior to anyone, in fact I sometimes wish I believed in something but I just can't. I recognise that I can be a little bitchy at times but only when people knock science or Richard Dawkins (or musicals but that's irrelevant) because science is provable and religion isn't - so if people start saying that science is stupid then I get pissed. But I don't mind people disagreeing with me.
Sorry if that made no sense.
  • raves     [-] by Jerry
    Isn't much of science theory?
  • raves +1   [-] by Lovee
Yes, but theory isn't just guesswork. We weren't there when all tis began so we can't be 100% sure. Science always looks at new evidence and changes its ideas to fit around that. Scientifictheory has to be tested an awful lotbefore it becomes law and things like this probably never will because we can only be 99.9% certain and that isn't enough to make it law.
  • raves   -1 [-] by Malibulorie
ok so how did the scientist's get here?

Hello Lovee, you've read Richard Dawkins and that helped shaped your thoughts..would you read Edgar Cayce's works and think on what he brings to the table for thought?

    Answered Because...

First of all, is a proven fact that non-religious think they're superior?
If it is true let me give my 2 cents worth.
It starts in the beginning :- Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth. The entire Creation story is considered to be a fairy tale by the non-religious who believe that only naieve, gullible, dumb-ass people could accept.Yet Jesus refers in Matthew 7:13-14 to a narrow gate
that leads to life(eternal) and FEW there be that find it. And a broad gate that leads to destruction and many who travel on that road. The roads
    begin at Genesis 1:1

Sorry you feel that way though... There is definitely a language barrier between Christians and Atheists. We may become friends if Christians are willing to communicate in a UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE instead of using particular terminologies such as "God" and "Bible"?

    Answered They...

The non-believers feel they are superior because they tend to deal with the tangible aspects of life. As to why they are smug; it is probably because they have been talked down to by pompous Christians. Let's be honest; both the religious and the non-believers have shitty people in their groups.
