Why must the non-religious refer to themselves as intellectually superior to us and be so insulting on these polls?

They accuse us of worshiping and imaginary being. They insult and name call. WTF is their problem?

Actually, I'm a non believer, and have basically been called a dumb ass time and time again by believers.
I say to each his own. If you believe in god, that's great, if you don't that's great, too.

I have seen insults going both ways.. it's getting kind old.. people should learn to grow up and let others have their own beliefs without being insulted or being condemned..

Thanks Sister Jean.. and this is a lady that dedicated her life to her church.. and she is open to other beliefs...

    Answered They...

don't know Jesus as their Savior, so therefore they think all of us who do, is stupid or full of sh it......want to make them really mad? Tell them you will pray for them........smile
  • raves +5   [-] by Bitwise (McCain/Palin)
That does make them angry, or uncomfortable. It's as if praying for someone is an indication of a mental or spiritual superiority.
  • raves +1   [-] by Angel
yes thats right..thats just weird to me
  • raves +8   [-] by Jeff
Go ahead and pray for me, I won't get mad, I'll actually accept the waste of time, but the consideration you're taking for me. It's like someone giving you monopoly money... you know the money is fake but it's a nice gesture.
  • raves +3   [-] by Angel
well you wouldn't think that if God really got your attention....smile
  • raves +1   [-] by Bitwise (McCain/Palin)
Hey thanks! You know giving somone your consent to let them pray for you is an excellent thing -- besides, Monopoly money will be worth more than the American dollar someday.
  • raves +1   [-] by Jeff
Well as long as you guys don't come find me and force me to hold your hand while doing it or not, go ahead.

I am agnostic. That pretty non-religious. I don't believe that I am intellectually superior to religious folk. I also don't believe that I am spiritually inferior.

I can't say exactly why the individuals on SH do this.

That being said, To read reading through the the articles on the major atheist websites like Dawkins, Hitchens and the like is like wading through a cesspool of arrogance. The disdain they have for anything and anyone religious is quite a public and often a venemous display.

A quick read through some of their work will tell you where most of the anti-religious hate comes from - the Clergy of the Church of Atheism.
  • raves +7   [-] by chilton

    Answered Because...

Because they are jerks....Not all atheists are that way. Just the jerks. We have them on the religious side of the fence too (unfortunately....lol).
The sheeple word is nasty. I would never call an atheist anything but atheist and only if they define themselves that way first.
  • raves +2   [-] by Ben Dare
A sheeple Lol, never heard that one..it's great. But I do see why it could also be nasty. It's still fuuny.
  • raves +3   [-] by chilton
It's nasty and funny at the same time!
Try to insult me for following my Shepherd. You can't.....lol! I willingly follow Him and His teaching.
But to call somebody sheep because you believe differently says more about the name-caller. Arrogance, belittling, treating others as inferior for believing differently does not speak well of the name callers character or integrity.

    Answered Because...

Because I am secure in my own skin, it doesn't bother me. I am all for them having whatever opinion they wish to have and will live a life that I hope will be a beacon to others.

Convincing others is so multi faceted it need not be a conflict discussion or pitched battle. My own son was an influence to me and raising him alone we both grew up together in so many ways. It was his quiet determination that eventually got me to quit smoking, no arguements, no struggle, just gentle persuasion.

I think there are some who act as though they are intellectually superior on both sides.
  • raves +4   [-] by Magzilla
    I agree with that
  • raves +3   [-] by thunderbean
I agree, StarGazer. As a practicing christian myself I can say that a lot of us need more practice.

Hey i'm non-religious but I do no such thing. People can believe what they want to as long as they don't try to force it on me. If they do I'll force mine back at them. Ironicly though i've only had it happen a very very small number of times on sodahead, and all the people who have attempted it failed miserably and gave up trying after i proved their lack of knowledge of their own religion. "I have read the bible, and studied quite a few religions ^_^"
  • raves +10   [-] by Hef
I also find many people i've interracted with who claim to be religious have no grasp of the denominations they profess to being. Then thier final argument is simply, 'That's how i was raised.'
  • raves +8   [-] by Wicked (Brutal)
Yup lol, and they also will try to argue until their last breath that it's one way that isn't even supported by any material.
