File this article as "scary and odd articles that make it on front page." An HIV-positive man convicted of spitting into the eye and mouth of a Dallas police officer has been sentenced to 35 years in prison.
Because a jury found that Willie Campbell used his saliva as a deadly weapon, the 42-year-old will have to serve half his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. He was sentenced Wednesday.
Campbell was being arrested in May 2006 for public intoxication when he began resisting and kicking inside the patrol car, Dallas police office Dan Waller testified.
Campbell was convicted of harassment of a public servant.

I agree with most of what you're saying except that i want to add that you should google the virus. If you do so you will find that you really can't get HIV or AIDS from saliva, unless they're mouth is bloody. But most people don't usually have bloody mouths.

Answered No. 35 years for spitting at a cop is not fair.
so u spit at him why the hell does that add up to 35 years. he has hiv he's gonna die anyway. why don't they just leave him alone. he could have been pissed at the fact that he had hiv and got drunk and then the cop just was in the wrong place at the wrong time. -
OK, so being pissed off and/or drunk is an excuse?
If that's the case, then I guess lots of wife and child beaters should be left alone, poor guys.
How about murderers? Since most murders are done in anger and some when the killer is drunk, let's just leave them alone too.
The victims of the above crimes could also be considered to have been at the wrong place at the wrong time.
See my point? -
Answered Yes. That's scary and attempted murder.
it wasn't just for spitting at him. he was intoxicated and he spit at the police man, which would get anybody in jail. it just happens that he's HIV positive, so people are saying it's because of that. I doubt it. -
Who will you blame if Mr. Obama is a bust?

HIV cant be transmitted through spit. I read last year the person would have to drink 3 litres of the contaminated spit to become infected themselves
man the USA over reacts about everything
im sure people would laugh about that in NZ
its a funny story
"deadly weapon" TAHAHAHA
Answered Undecided
I guess it all depends on whether or not he knew that he was HIV positive. Bottom line though, the cop was doing his job and he doesn't deserve to be infected with HIV just because Campbell was angry about being arrested.
