Do you believe in destiny?

I firmly believe that some things are 'meant' to be.... like when you die. But I also believe in free will and that you choose your own path out of multiple paths you can take.
Examples of what appear to be 'destiny' deaths... the man who shoots his toe off and dies from shock,, while anouther guy is picked up by a tornado, carried 3 miles away and smacked into a telephone pole ,, but walks away with a scratch.
ps.. edited to note.. I also believe though that you have a higher 'self/soul' and several 'dying' opportunities you can either choose or decide not to.. your higher self knows when you've experinced what you wanted/promised to.. -

Destiny implies the idea of everything being preplanned and pre-arranged, which would totally destroy the idea of free will..
Destiny would somehow mean that any choice I make in the next thirty minutes is not really mine own, but me just following along the way of life sheepishly...
