Question Law & Courts

Have events in your town or (not major) city been mentioned in national media?

Have events in your town or (not major) city been mentioned in national media?
The city I live in is going to be featured on one of those t.v. news magazine shows soon -- for the second time in not too many (5 or 6) years. Missing persons/murder and disappearance.
A couple of months ago, there was an article in one of the weekly "news" rags which took place here (the location was mis-identified in the rag, but I don't know if that is their regular practice or an error...). Dead attempted rapist.
Possibly there have been good things mentioned in national media, too, but I missed them.
Three national media events in 5 or 6 years in the same (not major) city seems like a lot to me, so I thought I'd ask:

Have events your town or (not major) city been mentioned in national media?

This time last year, Newcastle was ravaged by horrendous storms and flooding, which resulted in a big coal tanker being washed up on the main beach in town. Just reading the stories in the local paper over the last few days, it actually made international headlines.

Well, back in 2003 there were some major brush fires that caught national attention. They started here and worked their way across several cities. I'm sure there's more, but I can't really think of anything.

I live in a city of about 20,000. So anything that happens makes news around here. Not much else to report. We have had misconduct at City Hall, Police Department, a few murders, flooding and the Captains baseball. report misconduct city hall police department murders flooding captains baseball

Yeah, our daily newspaper is more of a pamphlet -- not much going on, apparently (other than the usual meth and arson and general stupidity). Thanks for the comment and the graphic!

I live some of the year in Cherry Hill, NJ which is a Nice, Suburban Community but several years ago, around the corner from me we had the Rabbi Neuland Murder of his wife, it was on Court TV and living so close was of great interest. He was guilty and serving Life!
Last year several Terrorists were arrested in a plot to attack Fort Dix, they made the mistake of filming themselves at a target range and getting it developed, A young man I think at Best Buy saw the film and turned them in. Think they're still in the courts

So, Cherry Hill Park? Like in the song? Cool!
Not too smart of terrorists, huh?!

I don't consider Tucson a "Big or Major" city, but we end up in the news usually about once a year. Mostly for either flooding or Illegal immigrant issues, but we used to be a mafia "retirement" town & we've been featured on 48 Hrs & Dateline for a few murders. We also had a wild cross town chase this week that ended up with 3 police officers shot, one fatally, which sometimes gets mentioned on national news.
    Its pretty weird, isn't it?
  • raves +1   [-] by highdesertgemini
I don't think I would consider Tucson a "big or major" city, either, at least not here, although I'm pretty sure your population is considerably more than ours... It IS weird! Thanks for the comments!
