Britain has long produced some of the world's most luxurious vehicles, including Jaguar, Bentley, Rolls Royce. Germany is well known for engineering. The Volkswagen is popular worldwide, as is BMW and Porsche. Many feel the Italians do it best, manufacturing the Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and Alfa Romero. Japanese cars are quite popular for their dependability, including brands like Toyota, Honda, Mazda, and Mitsubishi. The United States continues to produce high end vehicles such as Cadillac and Lincoln.

Automobile airbags use a chemical compound that is so toxic that even small amounts can kill. Neck injuries are very common. Other problems include permanent hearing and vision loss, delayed neurological muscle damage or brain injury. In fact, some people have been decapitated by airbags. Broadly speaking, airbags have saved many lives, but the potential harms are worth considering.

Optical illusions will be painted onto city streets in the United States in an effort to slow traffic. The images will appear as 3D barriers to oncoming motorists, although the road is completely flat. The fake speed bumps are being installed at 100 junctions around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as part of a campaign against aggressive driving. The virtual bumps are the latest innovative measure adopted as an alternative to traditional "sleeping policemen", which have been criticized for damaging cars, slowing down emergency vehicles, and lowering fuel economy.

Route 66 has undergone improvements and realignments over its lifetime that changed its overall length. One such realignment moved the western endpoint from downtown Los Angeles to Santa Monica. Obama believes John McCain is promoting a "naive and irresponsible" foreign policy strategy in the Middle East while the Arizona Republican says that voters should doubt whether the Illinois Democrat has "the strength, the judgment and the determination" to keep America safe.

After decades steeped in mystery and myth, absinthe is forbidden no more, and people are lining up to see for themselves what the green fairy is all about. It took a legion of lawyers and four years of legal wrangling with U.S. regulators to get it back into the country legally. Since the ban was lifted last year, a handful of companies have been vying to cash in on what they hope will be a new generation of absinthe lovers.

In the words of Oscar Wilde, "After the first glass you see things as you wish they were. After the second you see things as they are not. Finally you see things as they really are, and that is the most horrible thing in the world."

Mindy McCready confirmed to the New York Daily News that she carried on a longterm affair with Yankee star pitcher Roger Clemens. “I cannot refute anything in the story,” the country singer says of reports that she met Clemens in 1990 when she was 15 years old and singing in a karaoke contest at a Florida bar. "Yes, I have known Roger Clemens for a long time," McCready told the paper. "He's a kind and caring man.”

Clemens, then with the Boston Red Sox, was 28 and a married father of two at the time. McCready's father, Tim McCready, told the New York Post that his daughter's relationship with the baseball star didn't turn physical until years after their first meeting. He says their affair was an "on again, off again thing" and describes Clemens as a "gentleman".

Incomes, on average, have declined by 2.5% among the bottom fifth of families since the late 1990s, while inching up by just 1.3% for those in the middle fifth of households, according to an analysis by the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and the Economic Policy Institute. Unlike what happened during the economic boom of the 1990s, lower- and middle-class families have not shared in the prosperity of recent years. In fact, the United States has had its longest jobless recovery and slowest rate of payroll growth during this decade. Wages have not kept up with inflation, families have loaded up on debt and homeowners have seen the value of their largest asset decline.

Republican Senator John McCain said he opposes a Senate bill that seeks equal pay for women, because it would create unnecessary lawsuits. The bill sought to counteract a Supreme Court decision limiting how long workers can wait before suing for pay discrimination. It is named for Lilly Ledbetter, a supervisor at the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.'s plant in Gadsden, Alabama, who sued for pay discrimination just before retiring after a 19-year career there. Ledbetter made $6,500 less than the lowest-paid male supervisor and claimed earlier decisions by supervisors kept her from making more.

Senate Republicans killed the bill Wednesday night on a 56-42 vote that denied the measure the 60 votes needed to advance it to full debate and a vote. Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both support the measure.
