Basically a jet crashed in the jungle of Mexico with 1000s of pounds of cocaine. The plane was also used in flights from Guantanamo Bay to the US and Europe. It might have connections with the C.I.A. An excerpt from the Daily Kos (sadly, I couldn't find a better source): "This Florida based Gulfstream II jet aircraft # N987SA crash landed on September 24, 2007 after it ran out of fuel over Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula it had a cargo of several tons of Cocaine on board now documents have turned up on both sides of the Atlantic that link this Cocaine Smuggling Gulfstream II jet aircraft # N987SA that crashed in Mexico to the CIA who used it on at least 3 rendition flights from Europe and the USA to Guantanamo's infamous torture chambers between 2003 to 2005." Rest of that article here Whats interesting is that the story is not reported anywhere in the mainstream media so either the story is junk or no one cares. What do you guys think? Is there more to this story or is it all bogus?

From the New York Post: "Kerri Randles says she gave DeGeneres a male mutt named Stormy two years ago, only to find out less than two months later that fickle Ellen had re-gifted him to a member of her staff. "She may have had it for much less time than that. I only say two months because that's when I called to check on the dog and found out she no longer had it," Randles said. "I was totally shocked. I thought she was out of her mind." DeGeneres may have passed along several other dogs over the years. Howard Stern said on his Sirius show that he'd heard she had done this nine times before. Randles said DeGeneres seemed a perfect pet owner at first, but she quickly discovered the daytime TV hostess was "neurotic and crazy." When Randles took Stormy to NBC studios to meet DeGeneres, she was "drilled" for four hours by the star, her assistants and the crew. DeGeneres finally decided to keep the dog for a few nights to see if he'd fit into her home. This has been another incredible year for college football. If you would have told me that mid season, the rankings would have OSU would once again be number one followed by University of South Florida and Boston College... I would have laughed.

"Under new rules proposed by the Transport Security Administration (TSA) (pdf), all airline passengers would need advance permission before flying into, through, or over the United States regardless of citizenship or the airline's national origin. Currently, the Advanced Passenger Information System, operated by the Customs and Border Patrol, requires airlines to forward a list of passenger information no later than 15 minutes before flights from the US take off (international flights bound for the US have until 15 minutes after take-off). Planes are diverted if a passenger on board is on the no-fly list. The new rules mean this information must be submitted 72 hours before departure. Only those given clearance will get a boarding pass. The TSA estimates that 90 to 93 per cent of all travel reservations are final by then." The language is iffy but this would be a huge change. Do you think this is a good idea or would this result in catastrophe?

San Francisco has decided to deal with its homeless problem by "sweeps" through the city. " San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom had a pilot program in place to dislodge homeless campers from the park last fall. But after the effort ran out of money and got shoved to the back burner, readers e-mailed us to complain that campsites were sprouting up all over the city's signature park. With money from the latest city budget and a nudge from The Chronicle, Newsom has once again made the homeless in the park a priority. The results have been obvious. None of the original sites documented in my July visit have been repopulated, and dog walker Joy Cox, who strolls through the park daily, said, "The mayor seems to be doing a wonderful job, in my opinion. ABC news conducted a study about the negotiation habits of men vs women. Volunteers would play a game of Boggle where they would be payed between $5 and $12 dollars, which was negotiable. After one round, the person was offered $5 and would ask if that was fine. Results: "More than half of the men asked for more money, but only a third of the women bargained for more." In the past years, there have been huge corporate scandals (Enron, tyco, etc) but the SEC hands out punishments everyday. Take Freddie Mac for example: "Mortgage finance company Freddie Mac will pay $50 million to settle federal charges that it fraudulently misstated earnings over a four-year period. An accounting scandal erupted at the government-sponsored company in June 2003 when it disclosed that it had misstated earnings by some $5 billion -- mostly underreported -- for 2000-2002 to smooth quarterly volatility in earnings and meet Wall Street expectations. Four former Freddie Mac executives settled the SEC's negligent conduct charges by agreeing to pay a total of $515,000 in civil fines and to make restitution totaling $275,548." Article here This took place in 2003 and they were fined by 125 million by the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight.
