Murfreesboro...my nephew went to school with the little girl that found that whopper...lol!

The largest found is the 'Uncle Sam'...40.23 carats.
It is a weekend trip for us ....

I think it was...the reporter took us from start to finish as she dug and mined for the diamonds. You saw her find the diamond actually several...she ended up with about a 8000 dollar diamond after polishing it and having it cut

Maybe Arkansas? There is a diamond mine there. It's next on the list : )

I saw a program on TV about doing what you want to do only it was with a diamond...I forget where it was mined...somewhere in US. when it was finished they then set it in a pendant I think. It was a lady that polished it.

Rhodalite is a lovely form of garnet found in Macon County, North Carolina.....we had so much fun finding these stones : )

I've never been to Idaho so I don't know. Get a paperback gem book with a map. That's how we find the mines. Also do Internet searches and watch the Travel Channel...Treasures...I think is the name. It airs on Wednesday pm. They go all over the country gem mining. Two weeks ago they spotlighted the mine we are going to !
I have found many garnets in North Carolina and they are pretty easy to find.

Even if things are not the greatest you cant stay on the frown side of happy. Im thinking of going garnet hunting this summer here in Idaho. Is there anything else I should be looking for In Idaho...Have any suggestions???
