About Me
I am a recently remarried man (3/29/08). I have no children but have 2 new adult stepchildren and a stepdaughter from a prior marriage. I have a bunch of nieces and nephews but I really dote on a niece who is studying at Stanford.

My wife and I live in the New Orleans area. She was relatively unaffected by Katrina. My 150+ year old house took quite a beating and has just gone on the market. I never lived in that great house since Katrina though my ex-wife currently does.

My parents are still alive. They lost nearly everything from the flood after Katrina.

I am very liberal and firmly believe people should be held accountable for their own actions.

I have traveled to over 40 countries and lived/worked in Saudi Arabia for 5 years.

I'd like to meet:

Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, Marilyn Monroe, Jesus, Mohamed, Sir Richard Burton (the explorer), George Patton, Claudius

Interests:

I love pro football - especially the New Orleans Saints. I keep abreast of who is leading in the standing of pro baseball. I don't care much for the NBA since the Jazz left New Orleans.

I read a LOT of science fiction. I don't care much for fantasy. I sing with the Symphony Chorus of New Orleans. I always vote, even for the piddling elections.

Favorite Music:

Pink Floyd, Beatles, Eagles

Favorite Movies:

Casablanca, Lawrence of Arabia, Jurassic Park, The Sixth Sense, Braveheart

Favorite Books:

Stranger in a Strange Land, The Feintuch "Hope" series, the Honor Harrigton series, Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware series, and the old Travis McGee series

Favorite Quotes:

"...secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy . . . censorship. When any government, or any church for that matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything-- you can't conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him."
-- Robert Heinlein, Revolt in 2100
