That, and the fact that so many people tend to fear what they don't understand, and it seems that the first thing those people do is ridicule what it is they don't understand, so they don't have to directly deal with it, and keep their own little world in their own order. Also, facing any sort of change tends to scare a lot of people, because they don't like to have that little world upset and made different, and that can also cause them to act in such ignorant and childish ways as well.
