Everything you do involves some level of risk. There's a chance you could slip in the shower and crack your head open. I don't want to be too graphic, but using your bat example again; If he has a gun, you'll never get the opportunity to swing it. If he has a knife, and you swing and miss, you won't get a second chance. It's over. Yes there is the risk, that you could miss and injure someone else. But in your scenario there is a certainty that if you don't act you will be injured. I don't know if you know of Dennis Miller since your fairly young, but he puts it very well when he says "If you're going to go to war, Go Roman"
