Looking at some of these other stories I should feel lucky, but I don't. When I found my cat of 14 years had died under my bed. This actually happen rather recently. I knew that she was old and I noticed a slight wobble in her step, but whatever happened hit quickly. I was planning on taking her to the vet if it continued. That same morning she was lying on the floor I bent down and pet her before going to work. She was not in her usual spot, but I was happy to see her out from under the bed. Nothing seemed out the ordinary she just purred deeply when I pet her. That was the last time I saw her alive. The next time was when I was going to give her food. I had a feeling something was wrong I can't explain it. I looked under the bed where she usually rests (her little boudoir) I saw her glazed over look. It struck me hard. I just picked her up and held her for a half hour, her body was still warm. She was a good cat.
