BackRaves

This is a really personal thing. I smoked for 20 years and tried several different methods and failed on almost all of them. The thing that got me to quit was a chest x-ray and the radiologist telling me that, if I didn't quit soon, I'd end up with emphysema. Since my youngest child had just been born, I decided that I wanted to live long enough to see her graduate from college, if she goes that route, and give her away when she gets married. I finally was SCARED into quitting. I used the nicotine patch alone and it worked, but it was a struggle. I'm now smoke free for the past 8 years and feeling fine. It will be totally up to your friend as to what will make him eventually REALLY quit. It's a very personal thing, like I said before. What worked for me, may or may not work for him. The important thing is that he keeps trying and that his circle of influence (you) encourage him every step of the way.
