$700,000,000,000 Bailout: How do you feel now about the plan for government to save our economy?

    150 262
I continue my support for the bailout
The bailout plan was premised on the assumption that the financial system was in a dire crisis because credit had stopped flowing at the commanding heights of the economy. The $700 billion was intended to restore confidence and get credit flowing again, kind of like jump-starting someone who's heart stopped beating. Yes, the "patient" should have been "exercising" better fiscal discipline all along (and it's never too soon to start), but lots of experts (and a bipartisan consensus in Congress) considered it a life or death situation. I'm no expert, but I followed the news, and I was willing to believe them. Has some of the money been squandered on AIG's extravagance and elsewhere? Yes. Should we cut off our noses to spite our faces? No.

Is it okay to have Sex before marriage?

    yes
Because of better nutrition, humans are experiencing puberty relatively early in life. At the same, the need for more education postpones the start of families. All that doesn't change the fact that we're hardwired to crave sex (especially when we're young), and we need physical affection to stay healthy. It's a good thing we have access to contraception.

Is Scott McClellan lying about George W. Bush?

    2,809 2,467
No; Scott McClellan is telling the truth. His book reveals the real story.
Anyone who's been paying attention knows that Bush & Company misled the public about WMD and Saddam's connection to 9/11 in order to drum up support for the Iraq war. What's noteworthy now is that an insider is coming clean. Like Robert McNamara after Vietnam, McClellan may feel better about himself as a result of telling the truth, but it's too late to escape the catastrophe.

I'm not tired of it, but I didn't vote that way because "X-Treme marketing encourages kids to do sports such as skateboarding and skateboarding." It's because inflation is inevitable. Intensifiers like "pro," "super," "mega," and "hyper" don't impress people a much as they used to. What's next after x-treme is worn out? Gimongous?

One of the big problems is that most Americans pay very little attention to the details of the candidates' positions. They pay by far more attention to coarse emotional images like the one included with this question. Americans are most likely to respond to sensational headlines about zingers, gotchas, and very superficial topics, and to the impressions created by advertising. To have any real chance of winning, a candidate has to pay big bucks to advertise him or herself TV. The goal is to trigger positive emotions for oneself and negative emotions about one's opponents. You've get to grab the public between episodes of American Idol and CSI, and you can't do that without money. And most members of the public are utterly clueless about how they are being manipulated. The same tools that sell soap and cigarettes are used to sell a candidate. Selling takes money.
