...is that the Republican party needs to consider trying through its rhetoric and policies to appeal to a more centrist and younger crowd, lose the tie to the religious zealots that want to focus on "morality" issues rather than the economy, manufacturing power of the US, the continued shipping of jobs overseas, the education of America's youth and the inevitable truth that younger fiscal conservatives don't necessarily subscribe to the parties social policies. Move more center Republicans and the Dems will forced to as well. Then maybe those of us who feel our two party system constantly skews to the extremes leaving most Americans to compromise their values and goals in order to participate, will finally feel represented and the country will have balance.

I believe it should remain legal, though there is nothing positive about it. I would also say that it is incredibly sad that people can't get a grip on the simple concept of birth control. I'm all for reducing the need/occurrence of abortion, but not for making it illegal. I'd also say perhaps the legality of abortion should be handed over to the states rather than the federal government. You will never have a consensus on the issue nation-wide, ever.

Was there when I was about 7. That would put the view in the summer of 1972. Truly an impressive place. I believe our car broke down and we stayed in an motel with hourly rates for a night...the same trek took us to the Grand Canyon, Sequoia, Yellowstone, Crater Lake and more. 6000 miles I believe round trip back to Houston. ...it would be interesting if I could stir up the slides my dad took. Yep, the old 35mm slides.

Our kids, 7 & 10 know what happened. They don't totally understand it, but what they know is from us talking about it at home, not at school. Right now, I think that may be the best way since I know exactly what they are being taught, how they feel and can field their questions. That said, at the very minimum, it should be taught at school that September 11, 2001 was an incredibly sad day when thousands of innocent people–American and other nationalities–were attacked and killed on American soil by the most heinous of cowards. And, that those thousands should be remembered forever. My older son's birthday is September 10th. He relates it all to his 3rd birthday.
