There are about 101 boys and girls held prisoner in Haiti’s Delmas 33 prison complex. These children, ranging from the ages of 10-17, were born into the poorest of slums and lured into the gang life by promises of food and money or simply from the fear of the members' violent threats. These little “soldiers”, as they are called by gang members, act as the gangs’ messengers or lookouts.

Instead of offering help to these children for rehabilitation, the government labeled them as common criminals and threw them in prison, eliminating their chance of someday becoming a successful adult.

Yéle Haiti has now altered the future for these children by providing them a rehabilitation program. Yéle Haiti collaborated with Foundation PRODEV and created an educational program for the boys and girls to attend when discharged from the prison. The program includes vocational training and counseling for the imprisoned youth.

and said : Well if you put it in context of Haiti and the children there than I would have to vote no. Looking at industrialized countries that are full of opportunity, I would have to say that those who fall into a "gang life" and commit crimes are criminals- yes they are a "product of their society" and other such details but they are still criminals. Looking at Haiti, it is a much different situation. For many, its not crime its just survival.

and said : I have a feeling that some of the people wanting to ban these books are the same people that would want the bible as the only required text book. Harry Potter is a GOOD book for kids. All controversy aside, Rowling knows how to tell a story. The ability to construct such an entertaining world that kids can dive into is not held by many authors. The complexities of her books are simplified and made interesting for any age group. How many books do you know of that can communicate the value of love conquering evil and still make it interesting to kids?

and said : I have been debating this question for quite some time. I would like to say that less government with a libertarian spin would be beneficial....but I do not think our country is in a position to thrive off of less government. If a true libertarian took office and began changing things, I thing it would be a shock to most people how much is provided to them by the federal government.

ALF poses significant dangers, and yet PETA has called ALF the “Army of the Kind” claiming that it is “not a ‘terrorist’ group" and that the members act "courageously, risking their freedom and careers to stop the terror inflicted every day on animals in laboratories.” In a new author’s note in her book about the Animal Liberation Front, “Free the Animals,” Ingrid Newkirk (president and co-founder of PETA) wrote, “Determined to cause economic injury to the exploiters, ALF members burn down their emptied buildings and smash their vehicles to smithereens. Perhaps, after reading this book, you will find that you cannot blame them." I'm not sure I agree with this. Hey, I love animals (especially myself), but I'm not sure it's fair to attack people and their property. Sounds shady to me... What do you think?

By now most of you know about Duane "Dog" Chapman (a.k.a Dog the Bounty Hunter) and his racial tirade about his son's black girlfriend. (News story here). Well, now the media storm is coming down in full force. Another part of the story is that the son basically sold the tape for money to the National Enquirer. Read here. Even though he is in disagreement with his father, do you think this is right?

An Indian River County youth has been accused of assaulting his mother and attacking police, all because he was ordered to stop playing Halo 3. According to TCPalm, trouble began when the youth (whose name and age cannot be stated for legal reasons) was told by his mother to turn off his Xbox 360 as it was getting late. After he refused, his mother took his “air card” (Wi-Fi adaptor) from the 360, preventing him from playing online and prompting a fit of rage that would see the child frantically search through the house, before punching his mum in the face. The kid then retreated to his room, but soon had to deal with local Sheriff’s deputies, whom his mum had called following the assault. The deputies entered his room using a key kept by the mother, but also fell foul to the youth’s rage: he managed to punch one deputy square in the face before being restrained and handcuffed. He would later be turned over to the state juvenile authorities of charges of battery-domestic violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.

Ok,when I first read this I thought it was nuts. The main reason is that usually in societies where women are covered something like this would be uber stimulating. Now, in some cultures where women don't wear much clothing, breasts are viewed as tools, not always objects of desire. Izzat Atiyaa had issued a fatwa, or religious ruling, offering his bold suggestion as a way around the prohibition in Islamic religious law against a woman working in private premises with a man who was not her close relative. Breastfeeding, he argued, would create a familial relationship under Islamic law. Dr Atiyaa explained to the Egyptian newspaper al-Watani al-Yawm that: "A man and a woman who are alone together are not (necessarily) having sex but this possibility exists and breastfeeding provides a solution to this problem (by) transforming the bestial relationship between two people into a religious relationship based on (religious) duties." In Islamic tradition, breastfeeding at infancy establishes a degree of familial relationship between nurse and child even if there is no biological relationship. Dr Atiyaa argued in his fatwa that if an adult male was nursed by a female co-worker it would likewise establish a familial bond that would permit them to work side by side without raising suspicion of illicit sex. Dr Atiyaa headed al-Azhar University's department dealing with hadith - oral tradition, outside the Koran, attributed to the teachings of the prophet Mohammed. He said he had based his ruling on one such tradition according to which, at the Prophet's order, a man named Salem was breastfed by the wife of another disciple. "The fact that the hadith regarding the breastfeeding of an adult is inconceivable to the mind does not make it invalid," Dr Atiyaa said, in defending his ruling. "Rejecting it is tantamount to questioning the Prophet's tradition." Nevertheless, his ruling evoked almost universal rejection among Muslim scholars and in the popular Egyptian press. Al-Azhar University formed a committee of hadith experts, who dismissed his ruling, and the university administration ordered him to publish a retraction. He complied. However, his apology was deemed insufficient by the head of the al-Azhar Supreme Council, Sheik Muhammed Sayyid Tantawi, a widely respected figure who is the highest spiritual authority in Sunni Islam. "There is enough chaos with all the unsupervised fatwas (published) on satellite channels," the sheik said. "We will never permit this chaos to spread to the religious establishment and to al-Azhar." The recall affects approximately 414,000 cases of pizza products currently in stores and all similar pizza products in consumers’ freezers. It includes eight SKUs (stock keeping units or UPC codes) of Totino’s brand frozen pizza and three SKUs of Jeno’s brand frozen pizza with pepperoni topping, or incorporating pepperoni in combination with other toppings. Dog Chapman has been captured spewing foul-mouthed racist slurs on a tape obtained exclusively by The NATIONAL ENQUIRER.

And now a civil rights leader is calling for Dog's TV show to be removed from the airwaves.

In a shocking world exclusive The ENQUIRER has obtained tapes of two revolting phone conversations in which Duane "Dog" Chapman unleashes a filthy bigoted attack, littered with the N-word and other disgusting racial insults.

The star of the A&E reality show Dog, The Bounty Hunter directed his racist hatred at his son Tucker's girlfriend Monique Shinnery, who is black.

"Dog Chapman should not have a show. That show should be taken off the air!"

That's the opinion of prominent civil rights leader Roy Innis, who has served as the chairman of the Congress for Racial Equality (CORE) since 1968. Innis was shocked and outraged when The ENQUIRER played Dog Chapman's racist telephone conversations for him.

"This man should not be held up as a role model for children," Innis told The ENQUIRER. "He has venom deep in his soul. This is a picture of his heart — a revelation of his true nature.

Innis believes that cable network A&E needs to take swift action in response to Dog's vicious outburst.

"He needs to answer for his behavior," says Innis.

"When someone gets the opportunity to use the airwaves, he becomes a role model, whether he likes it or not. Dog Chapman should not be in that position, posing as a good guy.

"His comments show that he certainly is not a good guy."

(CNN) -- A contract employee at the largest nuclear plant in the nation was stopped at a plant entrance Friday with a "relatively small" explosive device in his truck, officials said. "This would be no story at all if it weren't for where the man worked," a law enforcement official involved in the case said. "There is no connection to terrorism. There is no threat to public safety." The employee was on his way to work at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station in Wintersburg, Arizona, at about 6 a.m. when a routine security sweep at a checkpoint found the item, according to Jim McDonald, spokesman for Arizona Public Service Company, which owns the plant. He described the device as a "pipe bomb." A capped pipe was found in the truck bed, said Victor Dricks, regional spokesman for the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The pipe had suspicious residue, but APS said initial checks failed to show any explosive material on the pipe. Video Watch how a security guard decided there was something not quite right » The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office took the pipe and tested it. "MCSO bomb squad tests later determined that the capped pipe was a credible explosive device," APS said in a written statement. The man was detained and is in the custody of the sheriff's office. The device is not something the employee would have used in his work, which deals with computers and software, sheriff's spokesman Paul Chagolla said. He is a middle-aged out-of-state subcontractor working at the plant who resides at a Phoenix apartment complex, Chagolla said, describing the employee as cooperative. The plant is on lockdown until a security sweep is completed, McDonald said. "We have a large and well-trained security force that followed the procedures exactly the way they're supposed to," he said. Dricks said officials declared an "unusual event" at the plant -- the lowest of four emergency classifications. The device was "relatively small" and its volatility had not been determined, APS spokesman Mark Fallon said. The pipe was "in plain view of the security officers" and the employee apparently was not attempting to hide it, he said. The law enforcement official involved in the case said it appeared to have been tossed into the bed of the pickup "more or less at random," and could have been thrown there by someone else -- a possibility police have not ruled out. Moreover, the device was so small that it would not have destroyed the truck if it had detonated, let alone a large facility like Palo Verde, the official said. Based on what they know so far, authorities may not arrest the employee, the official said. Even if someone were to smuggle a pipe bomb into a nuclear plant, the damage would not be catastrophic, said David Heyman, director of the Homeland Security Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. "The Department of Homeland Security has put in place buffer programs," Heyman said. They've spent tens of millions [of dollars] across the country in critical infrastructure, making sure if you get through one layer, you have to get through another and another. Before you get to that reactor, you have to get through a whole lot of security," he said. In this New York Times article, a principal of a school in Massachusetts is taking measures to fight stressed out students who put too much on their plate and try to be over achievers. "His new stress committee is starting to come up with recommendations, like the relaxation consultants, and is surveying students about unhealthy stress. This term, Mr. Richards is talking up the yoga classes that are required of all seniors. He has asked teachers to schedule homework-free weekends and holidays." Do you think this is beneifical to students? Should students be taking yoga?
